Alberta News
Alberta farmers planning to process or market more of what they produce have until Nov. 9 to apply to the province’s On-Farm Value-Added Program.
The program supports work beyond harvest or slaughter, including processing expansion, food-safety improvements, product development and access to markets.
Stream A offers grants up to $50,000. Stream B covers grants above $50,000 to a maximum of $250,000.
Applicants remain responsible for part of the cost. Eligible capital expenses are shared at 25 per cent grant funding and 75 per cent applicant funding. Approved grants are paid as reimbursements.
Alberta Beef Producers highlighted the deadline in a Nov. 2 notice. It said the separate Value-Added Program for food and bio-industrial processors also closes Nov. 9, with no further applications accepted for the remainder of the 2026–27 fiscal year.
The two programs serve different applicants: the on-farm program supports primary producers adding value to their products, while the processor program supports processing businesses.
Both operate under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership. The province describes that framework as a five-year federal-provincial investment of $508 million in Alberta agricultural programs and services.
Producers can find application forms, eligibility requirements and eligible activities through the provincial program page.
