Alberta RCMP issues 1,107 tickets during Heritage Day long weekend

Alberta News

From July 31 to Aug. 3, the Alberta RCMP conducted enhanced traffic safety enforcement across the province, resulting in 1,107 traffic-related tickets.

Of the 1,107 tickets issued, 513 were for speeding, 27 for distracted driving, and 20 for seatbelt infractions.

Additionally, 90 drivers were removed from Alberta roads for impairment from alcohol or drugs. The following Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) were issued:

  • 13 drivers received IRS 24-hour suspensions;

  • 14 drivers received IRS WARNS;

  • 59 drivers received IRS FAILS; and

  • Four novice/commercial drivers were removed for IRS ZEROS.

Sadly, there were 28 injury collisions and five fatal collisions during the enforcement period.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “We all have a role to play in keeping Alberta’s roads safe. Choices such as driving sober, staying focused behind the wheel, adjusting your driving to road and weather conditions, and buckling up can save lives.”
