Strathmore RCMP are asking for help identifying two suspects after an attempted armed robbery at the Wheatland Hotel prompted a townwide shelter-in-place advisory Oct. 24.

Police responded at approximately 10:46 p.m. after a suspect reportedly entered the hotel with a firearm and demanded money. According to RCMP, an employee activated a panic alarm and the suspect fled.

A second suspect entered the hotel at the same time. Police said the pair left in a silver Chrysler 300.

Residents were asked to remain indoors while officers searched the area. The RCMP Emergency Response Team was among the resources deployed.

The shelter-in-place advisory was lifted after approximately three hours. Police said the armed suspect had not been located but was no longer believed to be in the area.

RCMP described the armed suspect as a man approximately six feet tall with a larger build and medium complexion. He wore a mask, tan gloves, a black hoodie, a red T-shirt, faded blue jeans, a black belt and black Adidas shoes with white stripes. He also carried an Adidas duffel or gym bag.

The second suspect was described as approximately five feet nine inches tall with a slender build, wearing a black jacket, dark pants and black shoes.
