Blackfalds investigating armed robberies

Alberta News

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are asking for the public’s help to identify a man believed responsible for two armed robberies at the same Blackfalds pub less than a month apart.

Blackfalds RCMP stated the first robbery occurred April 18 at about 10:59 a.m. at the Sidetraxx pub inside the Blackfalds Motor Inn. Police say a man armed with a handgun and bear spray entered the business, produced the handgun from his waistband and robbed the bartender of cash.

The suspect fled on foot westbound across East Avenue on Park Street carrying the money in a blue reusable Walmart grocery bag.

Police said the suspect wore a grey hoodie with a “New York” and “7” graphic, dark pants, sunglasses, grey-blue Nike runners and a ballcap with a black-and-white brim. He was also carrying a grey-and-black backpack.

A second robbery at the same business was reported May 10 at about 11:05 a.m.

According to RCMP, a man entered the Sidetraxx pub carrying a handgun and bear spray, pointed the handgun at staff and stole cash before fleeing on foot.

Police said the suspect discharged bear spray after staff pursued him outside. He was last seen crossing East Avenue westbound.

During the second robbery, the suspect was described as wearing sunglasses, gloves, a black face mask, black shoes, a dark grey hoodie and grey sweatpants. RCMP noted the hoodie and sweatpants were worn inside out. The suspect allegedly used a black reusable Co-op grocery bag to carry the stolen cash.

In an earlier release issued April 20, RCMP described the suspect in the first robbery as an older male with a medium complexion wearing the distinctive grey “New York 7” hoodie.

Police are asking residents in the area to check surveillance, dashcam and doorbell camera footage for possible images of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Blackfalds RCMP at 403-885-3333 or local police. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers.
