Coaldale RCMP flight from police leads to drug seizure

On April 1, 2026, Coaldale RCMP seized a significant amount of methamphetamine following a vehicle stop where the driver initially failed to stop for police. The approximate combined value of the illicit drugs is estimated as $12,000.

 

Kaitlynn Cartwright (30), Jason Mercer (27) and Jacob Wiebe (56), all residents of Taber, Alta., have been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. Additionally, Wiebe has been charged with flight from police and Mercer has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

 

Cartwright, Mercer and Wiebe were brought before a justice of the peace. Cartwright and Wiebe were released on conditions, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge om April 30, 2026. Wiebe was remanded into custody and is to appear before the same court on April 8, 2026.
