On July 1, both Damien Kurek and his wife joined Pierre Poilievre and his wife during Canada Day events in Stettler, Alberta. They visited West Stettler Park, where Poilievre mingled with residents and spoke with the media. Earlier in the day, Kurek formally introduced Poilievre to the gathered community .


Prime Minister Mark Carney has officially set a by‐election for August 18, 2025, in the federal riding of Battle River–Crowfoot, following the resignation of Conservative MP Damien Kurek. Kurek, re‐elected in April 2025

with over 80 per cent of the vote, stepped down on June 17 to allow Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to run.


The writ was issued on June 30, officially marking the start of the by‐election campaign Advance voting is spread over four days in early August, with the main polling day coinciding with Alberta Heritage Day to avoid scheduling conflict.
