High Prairie RCMP responds to two unrelated shootings

High Prairie, Alta. – On March 31, 2026, around 3:54 p.m., High Prairie RCMP responded to a shooting near the High Prairie Courthouse. RCMP members arrived on scene and began their investigation while EMS transported the victim to the hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries. Information was obtained and possible suspects have been identified. No arrests have been made so far.
Later that same day, at 9:02 p.m., High Prairie RCMP received a report on an attempted murder in Atikameg, Alta., following a dispute at a residence. One suspect shot at the victim, missing, then fled the scene in a pickup with three other individuals. RCMP responded and located the vehicle, which subsequently fled North on Highway 750.
Alberta RCMP RTOC was engaged and a pursuit was authorized. During the pursuit, the suspects in the vehicle threw objects, including fireworks, towards police vehicles. The vehicle stopped and four people fled the scene. No firearms were recovered in the vehicle. A shelter in place was initiated in the Atikameg area. Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services responded and, ultimately, 2 females and 1 male were arrested.
As a result of the investigation, Lita Destiny Christian (31), a resident of Cadotte Lake, Alta., Paval Kozlov Laboucan (24) and Hannah Lacey Cardinal (30), both residents of Atikameg, were arrested. A warrant for arrest has been obtained for Deshawn Laboucan (20), a resident of Little Buffalo, Alta., who fled from the vehicle that night. All have been charged with:
Possession of prohibited weapon;
Possession of weapon without a license;
Pointing a firearm (x2);
Discharging firearm; and
Careless use of firearm.
Deshawn Laboucan was additionally charged with:
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
Attempted murder with a firearm;
Discharge a firearm with intent; and
Unauthorized Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Furthermore, Paval Laboucan was arrested on charges stemming from a firearm-related incident in Peace River. Christian, Paval Laboucan and Cardinal were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in High Prairie on April 7, 2026.

High Prairie RCMP advises public to shelter in place - update
Atikameg, Alta. – High Prairie RCMP would like to advise the public that the shelter in place has been lifted. Three suspects have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing and an update is anticipated once more information becomes available.

High Prairie RCMP advises public to shelter in place
Atikameg, Alta. – High Prairie RCMP are currently searching for four males armed with firearms who were last seen on Highway 750, near Nahachick Road, in Atikameg. Those living in the Atikameg area are asked to shelter in place while police respond. The public is asked not to travel to the area or stop for any hitchhikers.
An update will be sent once more information is available or when the shelter in place is lifted.
