Hinton RCMP investigates threats made to local school

Hinton, Alta. – On May 12, 2026, Hinton RCMP were made aware of a message written on a wall regarding a threat to the school. Hinton RCMP attended the scene and Hinton RCMP General Investigation Section took carriage of the investigation. Though the matter is still under investigation, a review of school safety measures is underway, and all precautions are being taken with regards to this message. Hinton RCMP will be conducting additional patrols around the various schools in Hinton. Hinton RCMP is also aware that a school has decided to cancel classes for the day. This was an initiative taken by the school out of an abundance of caution and any questions regarding this should be directed at the school.
As of right now, there is no confirmation of an imminent threat to a specific location. RCMP are monitoring social media, patrolling the areas around the schools and investigating any information or leads that have come in thus far. Should the situation change, the schools, parents and public will be advised.
