Red Deer RCMP Traffic services lead joint forces operation

This past week, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Services led a joint force commercial vehicle operation, bringing together multiple law enforcement and public safety agencies.

 

The coordinated operation focused on commercial vehicle safety and took place in the City of Red Deer between June 9 and June 11, 2026.

 

The three-day operation was in collaboration with: Red Deer RCMP, City of Red Deer Community Peace Officers (CPO’s), Alberta Sheriff Highway Patrol, Ministry of Transportation & Economic Corridors, Vehicle Safety Investigators, Tax and Revenue Administration, Fuel Tax Inspectors, Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis Inspectors, and Dangerous Goods Rail Safety Inspectors.

 

Check stops were conducted at high transport traffic locations throughout the city, such as: Taylor Dr. and 77 St., Taylor Dr. and Highway 11A, Riverside Dr. and 77 St., 67 St. and 30 Ave., Red Deer City Landfill and 40 Ave., as well as the Red Deer Catholic School Bus yard and Prairie Bus Line yard.

 

As a result of this enforcement project, a total of 98 commercial vehicles and 28 school buses were inspected.

 

Operational highlights include the following: 50 Commercial vehicles passed inspection, 21 required attention, and 27 vehicles were taken out of service. A total of 143 mechanical defects were found on commercial vehicles. For the 28 school buses, 21 passed inspection, 4 required attention, and 3 were taken out of service. A total of 7 mechanical defects were found on the school buses.

 

229 violations were issued, 45 written warnings, and 3 violations for marked fuel. 2 vehicles were deemed unsafe by vehicle safety inspectors. RCMP found one driver to be suspended, 1 driver to be impaired and executed 2 outstanding warrants.
