Strathcona County RCMP investigate robbery during Facebook Marketplace transaction


Sherwood Park, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP are notifying the public and asking for tips after two reports of robberies during Facebook marketplace transactions. On Dec. 23,2025, just after 8:45 p.m., a suspect met the victim who was attempting to sell an iPhone. The suspect grabbed the iPhone box and ran from a Sherwood Park business entering a vehicle with other men. Shortly thereafter, a second victim selling an iPhone met with a suspect at their Sherwood Park home. The suspect deployed a bear spray type substance at the victim, stole the phone, and fled. The victim is expected to recover.  

 

Both incidents are believed to have been committed by the same suspects.

 

The primary suspect is described as:

 

  • Male;

  • Late 20’s;

  • Very dark complexion;

  • Approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall;

  • A moustache and some facial hair.


A second suspect is described as:

 

  • Male;

  • Late 20’s;

  • Very dark complexion;

  • Approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and 110 lbs;

  • Thin beard running along his chin;

  • Wearing eyeglasses and a black jacket with fur-lined hood.


The other three suspects were reported to be inside an older model, four door, Black Nissan car and all three were wearing blue masks.  

 

While Strathcona County RCMP continue their investigation, we are asking the public to be cautious during online transactions.

 

Strathcona County RCMP is equipped with a Safe Exchange Zone at the detachment” says Staff Sergeant Ally Blue of the Strathcona County RCMP,” This safe exchange zone aims to provide a secure environment for residents to conduct online transactions, child custody exchanges, and any other lawful transactions that require a safe meeting place. The Safe Exchange Zone provides a neutral, well-lit location, for residents to conduct transactions without fear of potential criminal activity.”
