Town of Bashaw residents will have a considerable selection of candidates for their upcoming municipal election.
However, as a full slate of candidates wasn’t made by the Sept. 20 standard nomination deadline, Bashaw, according to Alberta’s municipal election legislation, extended the deadline for those nominations.
As a result, 11 candidates put their name forward for the four council seats with only one an incumbent: Kyle McIntosh. Bashaw’s council will likely have a very different look after the election.
Other candidates for Bashaw council include, according to the town’s website as of Oct. 2, Scott Williams, Shelley Boileau, Deborah Roorda, Carmen Meger, Ambyr Kohlman, Courtney Foster, Dallas Mitchell, Reina Masyk, Kristen Zembal and Emery Brown.
The mayor’s seat will be taken by current Coun. Cindy Orom; Orom was acclaimed on Sept. 20 as she was the only nominated candidate.
Current Mayor Rob McDonald and councillors Jackie Northey and Bryan Gust are not running again.
The municipal election will be held Oct. 20.
