Fort McMurray, Alta – On Oct. 27, 2025 at approximately 11:07am, Wood Buffalo RCMP and Regional Emergency Services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision south of Fort McMurray, between a semi tractor truck and a Mazda A3i passenger car. The driver and lone occupant of the passenger was taken by ground ambulance to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in serious condition. The driver’s current condition is not known. The driver of the semi tractor had no reported physical injuries as a result of the collision.
The initial investigation has revealed that both vehicles were traveling southbound on Highway 63 when the passenger car lost control and entered the path of the semi tractor unit. The two vehicles collided causing the car to enter the ditch and roll. Wood Buffalo RCMP continue to investigate the factors that led up to the collision.
RCMP have now cleared the scene and travel is no longer restricted. Road and weather conditions continue to be of concern due to the rain and snow falling in the region. RCMP remind motorists to prepare for changing road conditions and to exercise extra caution while driving. The arrival of winter weather often brings icy, snow-covered highways and reduced visibility, which can increase the risk of collisions.
Drivers are encouraged to keep the following safety tips in mind:
Slow down and drive to conditions. Posted speed limits are meant for ideal conditions, not snow and ice.
Increase following distance to allow more time to stop.
Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, including proper tires, a full windshield washer reservoir, and functioning lights.
Clear snow and ice from all windows, mirrors, and lights before driving.
Plan ahead, check road reports, give yourself extra travel time, and let others know your route.
