AB Gov. broadens financial support for livestock producers

Alberta News

Alberta government moves to broaden financial support for livestock producers by raising capacity of key loan guarantee program

In a move to bolster the rural economy and support Alberta’s beef industry, the provincial government has elevated the total lending capacity under the Feeder Associations Loan Guarantee Program from 150 million dollars to 225 million dollars.

The program, which relies on government backing to facilitate low-interest credit through feeder associations, reached its prior limit amid growing global demand for Alberta-raised beef and rising prices. By raising the program’s ceiling to 225 million dollars, officials intend to ensure continued access to capital for cattle and sheep producers working through locally operated feeder associations. Such access is seen as critical to maintaining and expanding Alberta’s reputation in the beef sector.

This financing boost comes at a time when feeder associations have become vital intermediaries, enabling producers to make herd purchases and undertake expansion efforts. The renewed loan capacity is expected to offer thousands of livestock operators across the province enhanced financial stability and growth opportunities.
