A Bonnyville man was charged with 18 offences after an alleged shooting between two pickup trucks in Mundare on Sept. 29.
Vegreville RCMP received multiple firearms complaints at about 7:19 p.m. Callers reported two trucks racing through town, with an occupant of one allegedly firing at the other.
Police identified the vehicles as a GMC Sierra and a Ford F-350. Investigators alleged an occupant of the Ford fired at the GMC.
The incident drew officers from several surrounding detachments, along with police dog teams, the North Emergency Response Team and other specialized RCMP units. The Edmonton Police Service’s AIR1 helicopter also assisted.
The helicopter crew located the Ford, but police said the driver fled when officers on the ground attempted a traffic stop in a rural area. Officers later stopped the truck and took the driver into custody without further incident.
No injuries to police officers or members of the public were reported.
Kobi Rosichuk, 30, of Bonnyville, was charged with offences including discharging a firearm with intent, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and breaking and entering.
The charges also included three counts of flight from a peace officer, two counts each of dangerous driving and driving while prohibited, along with mischief and firearm possession offences.
Following a bail hearing, Rosichuk was remanded into custody. The RCMP release listed Oct. 5 as his scheduled appearance date in the Alberta Court of Justice in Vegreville.
