Brooks and Bassano RCMP and partners conduct “Operation Street Sweep”

On July 3, 2025, Brooks and Bassano RCMP conducted a joint operation with Brooks/Redcliff RCMP Traffic Unit and Brooks and County of Newell Enforcement Peace Officers for “Operation Street Sweep”. In a continued effort to enhance public safety and hold offenders accountable, this operation was a focused effort to locate wanted persons on warrants, conduct condition compliance checks on previously charged offenders, and suppress crime and aggressive drivers.
As a result of the operation, a total of 38 traffic tickets and 25 traffic warnings were issued, 19 outstanding warrants on 10 individuals were executed, 3 of which were held for bail hearings, and 12 compliance checks were done on persons bound by court conditions.
Some notable files:
A 25-year-old male was arrested for five outstanding warrants for failing to comply with probation order;
A 54-year-old male was arrested for four outstanding warrants for dangerous operation of motor vehicle, fail to/refusal to comply with a breath demand and fail to comply with a release order;
A 22-year-old male was arrested for three outstanding warrants for sexual assault, sexual interference and fail to attend court;
Seven other outstanding endorsed warrants for various offences were executed.
Curfew/Compliance Checks:
9 compliance checks in Brooks were done on persons bound by court conditions; all persons were found to be compliant;
3 compliance checks in Bassano were done on persons bound by court conditions; all persons were found to be compliant.
Traffic:
11 violation tickets were issued for exceeding the posted speed limit;
25 violation tickets were issued for various safety violations;
1 ticket for a learner driver without proper supervision;
1 ticket for an expired driver’s licence;
25 warnings were issued;
2 defect notices for vehicles were served.
Brooks Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Robert Harms stated, “Operation Street Sweep is a new component to the Brooks and Bassano Detachment’s Policing Priorities and Crime Reduction initiatives for 2025/2026. The operation was very successful and I thank the many officers and support staff involved, including our key partners, who all contribute and help us work towards safer communities and roadways.”
Bassano Detachment Commander Sergeant Joe Schmidt stated, “Operation Street Sweep was an excellent initiative to highlight the RCMP’s capabilities and resources to pull together and have a successful outcome. The partnership between Brooks and Bassano RMCP and our agency’s relationships with our rural/municipal Peace Officers and RCMP Traffic Units allows us to work cohesively in a focused and proactive effort to make all our rural and municipal communities safer.”
