County of Paintearth discusses park–library collaboration

Local News

The County of Paintearth council discussed a possible partnership with local libraries to bring a “Leave a Book, Take a Book” program to county parks during its Aug. 6 regular meeting.

The initiative, common in some campgrounds, allows visitors to exchange books at small weather-protected kiosks. Council reviewed potential locations, including inside the campshack at Huber Park or the porch at Burma Park, and considered options for supplying the kiosks — from contracting a local woodworker to purchasing standardized units through the library.

Director of Community Services Todd Pawsey said the county would support the library in developing a recognizable, branded design. Council agreed there was time before the 2026 season to finalize the style and placement.
