Drayton Valley RCMP property crime initiative results in multiple arrests

Drayton Valley, Alta. - Over the past couple of months, after receiving multiple complaints regarding motor vehicle theft, the Drayton Valley RCMP began an initiative targeting property crime offenders. As a result, there have been a few noteworthy investigations that the Drayton Valley RCMP would like to share:

 

  • On Aug. 17, 2025, Drayton Valley RCMP attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in Drayton Valley. The driver fled from police but RCMP officers were able to identify the driver as a known suspended driver and prolific property crime offender in the area. On Aug. 27, 2025, the Drayton Valley General Investigation Section (GIS) and the Central Alberta District (CAD) Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a search warrant on a rural property in Alder Flats, Alta. Police seized the vehicle that was being operated on the date of the original offence as well as a second vehicle that has been confirmed to be stolen. As a result of the investigation, Jason Roy (38), a resident of Alder Flats, was arrested and charged with:

    • Flight from police;

    • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;

    • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited; and

    • Possession of property obtained by crime.

Roy was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on Sept. 16, 2025.

 

  • On Aug. 19, 2025, CAD CRU and Drayton Valley RCMP GIS were able to locate a wanted male in a rural location West of Drayton Valley. A search warrant was executed, resulting in the seizure of:

    • Four stolen trucks;

    • A stolen holiday trailer;

    • A stolen Side-by-Side ATV;

    • A stolen quad ATV; and

    • Several firearms, two of which were later confirmed to be stolen.

As a result of the investigation, Kenneth Caron (33) and Yvonne Rheaume (23) were arrested. Both were charged with the below offences, with Caron being additionally charged with Possession of a firearm or prohibited weapon contrary order (x5) and failure to comply with a release order(x5):

  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x9);

  • Possession of a firearm without holding a licence (x4);

  • Possession of a stolen firearm (x2); and

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon.

Caron and Rheaume were brought before a justice of the peace where Caron was remanded and Rheaume released. They are both to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on Sept. 16, 2025.

 

  • On Aug. 28, 2025, Drayton Valley RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in Drayton Valley. During the course of the investigation, police determined that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the dash of the vehicle did not match the one on the doors. Police queries on the door VIN revealed the doors to be from a stolen vehicle. Further investigation revealed the location of the stolen vehicle with its two missing doors. A 43-year-old male Drayton Valley resident was arrested and will be charged with Possession of property obtained by crime, though the information has yet to be sworn. The male was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is next scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on Oct. 21, 2025.

 

  • On Sept 5, 2025, after a three-months long investigation, the Drayton Valley RCMP GIS, with the assistance of the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, executed a search warrant on a “Chop Shop” near Drayton Valley. As a result of the search, police located and seized:

    • A large quantity of parts from four different stolen vehicles in various states of disassembly, with stolen parts mounted on non-stolen vehicles;

    • A firearm;

    • Ammunition;

    • A stolen safe;

    • A stolen ID card;

    • Methamphetamine; and

    • Cocaine.

Michael Tymchak (43) was arrested and charged with:

  • Break and enter and commit theft;

  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x9);

  • Possession of identity documents;

  • Possession of a firearm without holding a licence;

  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to order (x3); and

  • Possession of a controlled substance (x2).

Tymchak was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Breton on Sept. 10, 2025.

 

“The Drayton Valley RCMP remains committed to the investigation and prosecution of individuals that engage in property crime in and around the community of Drayton Valley” said Cpl. Cam Turner, the NCO i/c of the Drayton Valley RCMP GIS. “These criminal offences victimize members of the community and often can lead to lost wages and out of pocket expenses for victims of these crimes. The Drayton Valley RCMP will continue to ensure that persons who choose to engage in criminal activity and prey on members of the community will be located and dealt with according to law.”
