Flagstaff County will partner with the Town of Killam to explore the potential development of a new medical clinic for the community.
At its July 8 meeting, council approved participating in a committee that will examine the need for a new clinic and the feasibility of developing one. Council appointed Coun. Leslie Heck, Coun. Alexis Ponto and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Shelly Armstrong to represent the county on the committee.
The matter had originally been referred from the May 6 council meeting until Flagstaff County completed its new Strategic Plan, which was approved in June.
According to the administration report, Killam council has already appointed two councillors and its chief administrative officer to the committee and has proposed including a physician as a member.
The report notes a local physician has asked Flagstaff County to consider developing a new medical clinic in Killam. It also references a 2025 budget workshop initiative in which the previous county council identified completing a needs analysis to examine a new medical building that could accommodate physicians, therapists, training for health-care aides and consultation with Covenant Health.
Administration also noted that Flagstaff County contributed $300,000 toward the construction of the Daysland medical clinic in 2010.
By joining the committee, Flagstaff County will participate in determining whether a new medical clinic is needed and what options may exist for bringing the project forward.
