Flagstaff County has approved three years of Tourism Assistance funding to support the Sedgewick Canada Day celebrations.
Council approved a grant of $3,000 annually for 2026, 2027 and 2028 to The Friends of the Sedgewick Recreation Centre after reviewing the organization's application and grant evaluation.
The organization had requested $4,000 per year over three years to help host the annual family-oriented celebration. According to the administration report, the event features children's activities along with hardball, softball and slo-pitch games and typically attracts about 400 people to Sedgewick and the surrounding region.
Administration noted the Tourism Assistance Grant evaluation matrix supported funding of $3,000 per year rather than the full amount requested.
The report also noted the county's 2026 Tourism Assistance Grant budget totals $50,000, with $30,474 already committed before consideration of the Sedgewick application.
Council approved the recommendation, providing multi-year funding intended to help organizers continue hosting one of the community's annual tourism and recreation events.
