On Nov. 6, 2026, at 5:37 a.m., Valleyview RCMP responded to a stabbing at a residence. RCMP attended the scene along with EMS. Despite all life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. RCMP Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation. 

As a result, Darcy Kappo, an 18-year-old resident of Sturgeon Lake First Nation, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

An autopsy is scheduled for Nov. 9, 2026, at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

Kappo was remanded into custody, and his first appearance is Nov. 19, 2026, in Valleyview Provincial Court.
