Farmers across Battle River—Crowfoot are currently in the middle of harvest season. Farmers are putting in long days, the crop is coming off, the grain bins are filling, and ranchers continue raising the best cattle in the world. 

It’s a reminder of the enormous contribution our hard working producers and their families make to our communities, economy, and country. Their hard work puts food on Canadians’ tables and strengthens our economy.

Canada’s farmers and ranchers are among the most productive and innovative in the world. In 2025, our farmers produced 40 million tonnes of wheat and 21.8 million tonnes of canola. Canada's beef sector creates 347,000 jobs and contributes over $50 billion to the Canadian economy. 

But this harvest comes at an uncertain and difficult time. Our farmers and ranchers are facing pressure from every direction. The cost of machinery, inputs, fuel and financing remains high and trade uncertainty makes it harder to plan for the future. 

Recent tariffs on Canadian agricultural exports, including a 73.5 per cent preliminary Chinese tariff on Canadian pea starch, are reminders that the Liberal government’s promises of certainty have not matched reality. With President Trump’s new unjustified tariffs, many producers are worried about what comes next.

Ranchers have every right to ask why British beef exports to Canada surged from $16.6 million in 2023 to $42.5 million in 2024, a 156 per cent increase, while Canadian beef exports to the United Kingdom remain blocked by unresolved non-tariff barriers. 

For too long, Liberal trade policy has left our farmers and ranchers in the crossfire of disputes producers did not create. Whether it is Chinese tariffs on agricultural products, barriers to Canadian beef exports, or Carney’s failure to secure a trade deal with the United States, rural Canadians are carrying the burden. 

Agriculture must be treated as a national priority. Producers need a government that fights for reciprocal trade and opens markets for the products they work so hard to produce. Conservatives believe the people who feed our country deserve exactly that. 

We believe farmers and ranchers should be free to focus on producing food and creating prosperity, not worrying about the cost of living and trade barriers. Conservatives are ready to work with anyone who is willing to put Canada’s interests first. We continue to call on the government to eliminate the Clean Fuel Regulations and industrial carbon tax and reconvene Parliament immediately to pass an Economic Action Plan that cuts taxes, creates jobs, unleashes growth and restores affordability. 

As harvest continues across Battle River—Crowfoot, let us thank the farmers and ranchers whose hard work strengthens our communities, powers our economy and puts food on our tables.

They’re doing their part. They deserve a government that will do its part too.
