On Nov. 18, 2025, Hinton RCMP noted a pickup truck with a damaged headlight. Hinton RCMP members started to approach the vehicle, which immediately blew a stop sign and attempted to evade police. Officers were able to keep an eye on the vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen out of Edson, Alta., as it entered a park and was ditched in the tree line down a trail. The driver fled into the trees on foot. RCMP Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) was deployed, attended the scene and quickly located the suspect, who was subsequently arrested.
As a result of the investigation, Lucas Beaulieu (34), a resident of Hinton, was charged with:
Possession of stolen property over $5000;
Driving while prohibited; and
Failure to comply with probation order
Beaulieu was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Cache on Nov. 20, 2025.
“This file is a great opportunity to highlight the technology that can rapidly be deployed by RCMP members to help apprehend a suspect and lower the probability of escape” said S/Sgt. Shiloh Fragomeni, Detachment Commander of the Hinton RCMP. “Thanks to these tools, Hinton RCMP can help keep the community safe while being more efficient and thus better serving the members of the public under our care”.
