The County of Stettler’s Heartland Regional Fire Rescue battled a very serious structure fire Apr. 7 that the department said was fed by strong winds.
A Heartland Fire Rescue statement was posted on social media Apr. 7 regarding this emergency: “Fire crews from stations 3, 2 and 1 were deployed to combat a residential structure fire in Donalda. The fire was intensified by high winds that spread flames to adjacent structures and vehicles in the yard. The blaze was quickly brought under control by our Heartland firefighters. No injuries were reported, with all occupants accounted for.
“We are thankful for the support from the community and Coulee Tea House for keeping our firefighters fed and hydrated while they worked hard to contain this fire.”
A message to the County of Stettler regarding the fire was not returned by press time.
The Village of Donalda posted a statement on social media Apr. 7 referring to the strain this emergency placed on the municipal water system: “There is currently a fully engulfed fire on the border of the Village of Donalda and County of Stettler. We are pleased to confirm that everyone is safe and the emergency responders remain on scene, actively responding. Crews are drawing water from nearby fire hydrants to control the fire.
“As a result, residents may experience reduced water pressure. At this time, pressure remains stable and positive, and there is no risk to water quality. We are asking all residents to conserve water until further notice to support firefighting efforts and maintain system stability.
“There is currently no estimated timeline for when this conservation notice will be lifted. Public Works is actively monitoring the water distribution system to ensure it remains safe and continues to operate properly.
“We appreciate your cooperation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.” In a later update, the village added the fire was out and it estimated water service would be back to normal within 12 to 24 hours of the Apr. 7 posting.
