Alberta RCMP removes 50 impaired drivers from roads on National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day

Edmonton – On Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, the Alberta RCMP participated with other enforcement partners in National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day. As part of this initiative, check stops were established on Alberta roadways, resulting in 50 drivers being removed for being impaired due to drugs or alcohol.

The 50 removed drivers included 28 Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) FAILS and 13 IRS WARNS. Six novice/commercial drivers were removed for IRS ZEROS. Additionally, 328 total tickets were issued, including five tickets for distracted driving and 54 tickets for speeding. 12 injury collisions occurred, though there were zero fatalities.

“These statistics are just a snapshot of what is occurring on Alberta’s roadways,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “Enforcement initiatives such as National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day are an essential reminder that driving impaired due to drugs or alcohol is never okay and can have devastating consequences. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.”
