Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will join a United States-led initiative to strengthen global technology supply chains in key sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors. The move broadens participation in a partnership that includes Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Britain and Australia and reflects growing cooperation across regions on technology and industrial development.
The initiative, known as Pax Silica, is designed to reinforce the supply chain for advanced technologies from raw materials to manufacturing and data infrastructure. Representatives from the United States said the effort is part of a wider strategy to diversify economic relationships and decrease dependence on strategic rivals. Qatar was to formally sign the declaration on January 12 and the United Arab Emirates is expected to follow on January 15 during a major minerals and supply chain forum in Saudi Arabia.
Officials involved described the arrangement as a coalition built on the technological strengths of each participating country rather than a traditional security alliance. Members are expected to expand the group, develop strategic projects, and coordinate policies to support resilient supply networks throughout 2026. Discussions are underway on trade and logistics improvements, including projects that connect markets across India, the Middle East and Europe and on collaborative industrial developments in member nations.
Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have been pursuing broader economic shifts toward innovation and technology sectors. Their involvement with the pact aligns with efforts to transition from economies heavily based on energy exports to more diversified technology-driven growth.
