Red Deer RCMP lay charges in drug trafficking investigation

Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) have laid multiple charges, after a month-long drug trafficking investigation.

 

In Mar. 2026, Red Deer RCMP (GIS) received information that led them to initiate an investigation into drug trafficking.

 

On Mar. 19, 2026, Red Deer GIS, and the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT), executed a search warrant at a private residence in the north end of Red Deer.

 

As a result of the search warrant, police seized quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, two firearms, ammunition, contraband cigarettes, over $4000 of Canadian currency and other items & materials related to drug trafficking. Police arrested one male and one female. 

 

Michael Stinert, a 45-year-old resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following:

 

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking

  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking

  • Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm x2

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x2

  • Possess weapon for a dangerous purpose x2

  • Fail to comply with release order x2

  • Fail to comply with prohibition order x2

 

Following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing, Stinert was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Mar. 24, 2026.

 

Charges are pending against a 63-year-old female resident of Red Deer, Alta.

 

“Fentanyl use and the addiction it causes ruins lives and harms families every day,” says Cst. Andrew Devine with Red Deer GIS. “We see the damage caused by fentanyl trafficking in our communities first-hand. Disrupting drug trafficking and removing these substances from our communities makes our neighbourhoods safer.”
