A new report from the Angus Reid Institute shows Alberta’s government is seen as doing better than many others in Canada, but most people are still unhappy with how it is handling the issues that matter most.
The April 2026 Cross-Canada Outlook finds that health care and the cost of living are the biggest concerns for Albertans. About 62 per cent say health care is a top issue and 59 per cent point to affordability. Even so, most respondents think the government is doing a poor job on both. Roughly two-thirds rate its handling of these areas negatively.
Fewer than three in ten people say the government is doing a good job on health care or the cost of living.
Those numbers are still slightly higher than what is seen in other provinces, but they remain low overall.
The report also shows many Albertans are not confident about where the province is heading. Just over half, 52 per cent, say things are on the wrong track while 38 per cent believe things are moving in the right direction.
Money pressures are a major factor behind that view. Four in ten people say they are worse off financially than they were a year ago and many others say their situation has not improved.
Other areas like education energy policy and the economy matter as well, but they are not as pressing as health care and affordability. Even in areas where the government scores better, support does not reach a majority.
The findings suggest that while Alberta may compare well to other provinces, many residents are still struggling and are not satisfied with how key issues are being handled.
