The Tees Rodeo marked its 50th anniversary over the August long weekend, celebrating half a century of rodeo tradition and family fun at the Tees Rodeo Grounds. The event was hosted by the Tees Agricultural Society and despite rain on Sunday, the rodeo drew a strong turnout and a lively, cheerful crowd.
Held Friday through Sunday as part of the Central Alberta Rodeo Association (CARA) circuit, the milestone event featured three days of rodeo performances, live music, and entertainment for all ages.
Festivities began Friday evening with slack events at 5 p.m., followed by full rodeo performances on Saturday and Sunday, both starting at noon. Spectators were treated to a full lineup of CARA-sanctioned events, including bull riding, saddle bronc, barrel racing and team roping. Junior events such as steer riding and breakaway roping also drew enthusiastic crowds.
Fan favourites returned to the arena, including Mutton Bustin’, Tiny Mite Goat Tail Tying, the Pony Express, stock horse races and relay races—highlighting the family-friendly spirit and long-standing traditions that have defined the Tees Rodeo for five decades.
Beyond the arena, visitors enjoyed a lively market on the hill, a petting zoo and children’s activities throughout the weekend. Food concessions and beer gardens added to the festive atmosphere, while free dry camping offered a convenient option for guests staying the weekend.
On Sunday morning, rodeo-goers gathered for Cowboy Church and a pancake breakfast.
Known as “The Biggest Little Rodeo,” Tees once again proved its enduring place in Alberta’s rodeo season, bringing together competitors, volunteers and families to celebrate western heritage and rural hospitality.
