Turner Valley RCMP arrest female after officer injured

Turner Valley, Alta. – On Sept. 17, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., Turner Valley RCMP was dispatched to a report of a stolen GMC Sierra. An officer responded and located the stolen vehicle in Eden Valley, driving on Stoney Trail Road at a high rate of speed.

 

An officer was stopped on the road when the suspect vehicle swerved at the last moment, striking the front passenger side of the vehicle, causing airbag deployment and substantial damage to both vehicles. Although injured, the officer was able to arrest the lone female driver of the suspect vehicle.

 

Shantaya Lefthand (18), a resident of Eden Valley, Alta., has been charged with the following:

 

  • Assault with a weapon causing bodily harm

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

  • Theft over $5000

  • Mischief over $5000

 

The officer was transported to a Calgary hospital for treatment and has since been released.

 

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Lefthand was released. She will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Diamond Valley on Oct. 14, 2025.
