Thorhild County, AB – On Feb. 24, 2026, around 4 p.m., Redwater RCMP received a report of an erratic driver operating a box truck southbound on Highway 63 near the Hamlet of Abee. The truck, over 14,000 kgs, was reportedly weaving into oncoming traffic and had stopped in a driving lane.
Alberta RCMP Traffic Services located the reported truck and initiated a traffic stop. During this police interaction, the investigating officer identified factors for driving while impaired. The driver attempted to start the truck and put it into motion, however, was stopped and arrested by the investigating officer. Further police investigation revealed the driver was wanted by police on 8 outstanding warrants out of Edmonton.
Joel Pierre Doctor, 41-year-old male resident of the Northwest Territories, is facing multiple charges including:
Obstruction of a police officer;
Fail to comply with release order;
Immediate roadside sanctions for refusing to provide breath samples; and
Open liquor in a vehicle.
Joel Doctor was remanded into custody and is set to have his next court appearance on March 12, 2026, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton. Redwater RCMP also assisted with this investigation and RCMP worked in partnership with Edmonton Police Service to execute the outstanding warrants, which police will be addressing at this next court appearance as well.
Alberta RCMP Traffic Services would like to thank the motoring public for their vigilance and reporting high-risk driving behaviours on Alberta roadways.
