Cochrane RCMP recover stolen property after rural search warrant

In early June of 2025, Cochrane RCMP initiated an investigation into a report of stolen property located in Springbank, in Rocky View County. The investigation led to the identification of a rural residence where police believed the stolen property was being stored. On Feb. 12, 2026, Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a search warrant at the residence.
As a result of the search, police recovered more than $75,000 worth of stolen property, including:
Starcraft SFM boat and trailer
Chaparral 190 SSI boat and trailer
utility trailer
several ATVs
Husqvarna ride-on mower
Bombardier Sea-Doo
Can-Am BRP Side-by-side
The recovered property had been reported stolen from several different communities including, Cochrane, Calgary, Rocky View County, Strathmore and one of the items was reported stolen out of Ontario. Investigators have contacted most of the property owners and are working to return the recovered items to their rightful owners.
Two Rocky View County residents were arrested and charged in relation to the stolen property:
Keith Mcvittie (55), a resident of Rocky View County, has been charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Altering/Removing a Vehicle Identification Number
Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order
Amanda Mcvittie (53), a resident of Rocky View County, has been charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Altering/Removing a Vehicle Identification Number
Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order
Failure to Comply with a Release Order
Both accused were arrested by RCMP during the warrant execution and were held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. They were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Feb. 17, 2026.
Cochrane RCMP Detachment Commander, Inspector Dave Brunner, states: “The Alberta RCMP remains committed to targeting prolific offenders and disrupting rural property crime. Property crime has a significant impact on our rural residents. This seizure demonstrates our continued focus on holding offenders accountable and returning stolen property to victims.”
