Cold Lake RCMP arrests tractor thief

On Jan. 5, 2026, Cold Lake RCMP received a report that a Kubota tractor worth $50000 had been stolen from Cold Lake First Nations, Alta. On Jan. 28, 2026, the tractor was located in motion and fled from police when they attempted to stop the vehicle. Cold Lake RCMP, with assistance from Alberta RCMP Real Time Operation Center, Cold Lake RCMP Police Dog Services and Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), Eastern Alberta District CRU and Alberta RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, tracked the vehicle to a field where the tractor got stuck and RCMP was able to conduct an arrest.
As a result of the investigation, Jeremy Scanie (38), a resident of Cold Lake First Nations, was charged with:
Possession of stolen property over $5000;
Break and enter;
Obstruct police;
Mischief under $5000;
Failure to stop;
Failure to comply with probation condition; and
Failure to comply with court order.
Scanie was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on Feb. 9, 2026.
