On Sept. 8, 2026, around 6:50 p.m., Fairview RCMP received a call regarding a drive-by shooting with a victim being shot in the head. RCMP Officers responded immediately and investigation revealed that the victim sustained minor injuries after being shot with a pellet pistol in the head following a dispute with the suspects. The following morning police located the suspect vehicle at a residence, a search warrant was granted, and both individuals were taken into custody.  

As a result of the investigation, Vanessa Michelle Basnett (28), a resident of Worsley, Alta., and Jaylee Brenda Rain Lizotte (25), a resident of Hines Creek, Alta., were charged with assault with a weapon. Both were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Fairview on Sept. 23, 2026, for Basnett and Oct. 14, 2026, for Lizotte.
