A property offered through the Town of Hanna’s tax recovery process received no bids during an auction held Sept. 8.

Acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Kim Neill updated council on the auction during its regular meeting later that day. She said no prospective buyers attended the 2 p.m. auction in council chambers.

The number of properties available for auction had decreased from five to one before the sale.

The remaining property is legally described as Ptn. Lot 5, Block 12, Plan 6133AW. It had an outstanding balance of $2,363.62 and a 2026 assessed value of $81,210.

The property will be brought back to a future council meeting, where council will consider whether the town should take title to the land.

If the town takes ownership, it could list the property for sale through a real estate agent.

Neill said tax recovery auctions can attract limited interest because the process relies on assessed property values. Prospective buyers are also unable to inspect the interior of a property before bidding, which can make the purchase a significant financial risk.
