Leduc RCMP respond to armed and barricaded male

Alberta News

A knife incident at Leduc Hospital ended peacefully after RCMP negotiations. The man surrendered the weapon, no one was injured and no charges were laid.

On July 21 around 6:35 a.m., Leduc RCMP responded to a call from the Leduc Hospital regarding a male who had a knife in his hospital room and had brandished it at nursing staff. Officers arrived at the hospital, and the male had pushed furniture up against the door barricading it. RCMP utilized multiple resources including a RPAS unit and the Leduc Fire department. Negotiations with the male resulted in him relinquishing the knife and being apprehended and turned back over to the hospital staff without any incident.

“This was a great demonstration of teamwork between RCMP, Fire and hospital staff,” said Insp. Kiel Samotej. “ In these situations, our biggest concern is everyone’s safety and todays result highlighted how this collaboration created a positive outcome.”

No Criminal charges are being laid.
