RCMP have charged an Elnora man after he was alleged to have impersonated a peace officer. Readers should note Elnora is a village located a few minutes north of Three Hills.

An RCMP K Division email dated Feb. 20 stated, “On Jan. 8, 2026, Three Hills RCMP began an investigation into personation of a peace officer in Elnora.”

“Police located an older model Ford Crown Victoria parked at a residence, and it appeared to have a badge on the bumper that read ‘Police Interceptor.’” Readers should note the Ford Crown Vic, as it’s often called, is commonly used by police forces across North America.

“Further investigation revealed the same vehicle had been seen on Oct. 17, 2025, near Sylvan Lake, driving at a high rate of speed with blue lights flashing,” stated the RCMP press release. “Two drivers reported the vehicle and stated they initially believed it was a police vehicle.”

Police investigated and found the vehicle in question. “Three Hills RCMP obtained a warrant to search and seized the vehicle,” stated RCMP. “It was later searched, and a fully functional siren and public address (PA) system were found.”

Police alleged a suspect customized the vehicle in a certain way. “The investigation revealed the Ford Crown Victoria was a decommissioned police vehicle that had been outfitted by the suspect with police-style equipment,” stated RCMP.

One man has been charged in relation to this investigation. “Randy Telford, 64, a resident of Elnora, has been charged with personating a peace officer,” noted RCMP.

“Telford was issued a summons and is scheduled to appear at Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on April 17, 2026.”

Police would like to speak with anyone who may have encountered this vehicle. “Three Hills RCMP believe there may be additional complaints about the vehicle, and anyone who has information is encouraged to contact the Three Hills RCMP detachment at 403-443-5539,” added RCMP. “If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com, or by using the ‘P3 Tips’ app available through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.”
