After investigation and a search in Fort McMurray police located and seized: Firearms including rifles, a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, thousands of rounds of ammunition, firearms scopes and firearms magazines. Submitted


Firearms discovered after search in Fort McMurray


On Feb. 25, 2026, at approximately 8:52 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP entered a hit and run investigation on Manning Avenue, in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. Police identified the suspect vehicle involved, a black, 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, shortly after the initial report, and located the vehicle parked in Gregoire.


The driver was identified and police observed signs of impairment. He was subsequently arrested and the vehicle was seized. During the seizure of the vehicle, RCMP officers located an unsecured firearm stored in the backseat.


Further investigation into the unsecured firearm led Police to obtain a judicially authorized search warrant for the driver’s residence, located in the Gregoire area of Fort McMurray.


Police located and seized: Firearms including rifles, a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, thousands of rounds of ammunition, firearms scopes and firearms magazines.


John Goode, a 65 year-old male resident of Fort McMurray, is facing charges: Operation while impaired, Operation while impaired exceeding 80mg, seven counts Unauthorized Possession of a firearm, two counts Careless use of a firearm and Fail to remain at the scene of an accident.


Goode was held for a Judicial Interim Hearing and has since been released from custody. He is set to appear next in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Mar. 11, 2026.
